Hundred of Oromos from around the western United State (Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, particularly California) will be gathered in the great city of Los Angeles, from Aug 19 to Aug 21, for west Coast Oromo church conference. The Los Angeles Oromo Church sponsored this conference, which is, its first, since the establishment of the church less than two years a go. This conference comprises a series of events including religious, community based events, cultural, as well as to bring all Oromos together to be acquainted for greater good.

All Oromos are invited and encouraged to attend this great events.

Commemoration of Oromo Martyr's Day

April 30, 2005


On April 30th, Waldaa Oromo of Los Angeles held a meeting to commemorate Oromo Martyr's day. The day began with two presenters. The first presenter, a member of the Los Angeles area Oromo community, discussed the sacrifices Oromo martyr’s made for our people. He continued with an historical presentation of Oromo Martyr’s beginning with resistance in the early 1900’s through the formation and current struggle of Oromo Liberation Front. Next, the presenter discussed the founders of Mecha Tulama who became martyrs. The presenter talked about Mecha Tulama’s positive impacts to Oromo society, which successive Ethiopian governments found to be a threat.

The second presenter analyzed Oromo’s current struggle and discussed the need for unity. As a result for a call of unity, a team was selected to determine how to bring about unity among Oromo. The team will present their assessment and recommendations to the community.


2005 Oromo Community of Los Angeles New Years Celebration

On December 31st, Oromo Community of Los Angeles and Area celebrated the New Year at a convention hall in downtown Los Angeles. The New Year Celebration began with "eebbaa",and was followed by brief speaches by guest speakers. Also presented were a photo gallery of the LA Oromo community activities. Talents from Oromo Community of San Diego performed Oromo music and presented fantastic walaloos. After individual talent presentations, Bandi Oromo entertained the crowd with current and classic Oromo music. Throughout the celebration, traditional food, budeena, was served with beverages.

At the begining, the President of the Community facilitiated "eebbaa." Oromo elders elequently adviced the crowd on Oromummaa. Each elder stressed the need for Oromo unity amist current suffering. The last presentor expressed the need for Oromo to support our core self help organizations, particularly Mecha Tulama. The presentor reminded the audience of the current sufferings Oromos face in East Africa. Two specific examples were members of Mecha Tulama were imprisoned for speaking up for Oromo rights.The second example was Oromo students were imprisoned and ill-treated by government forces for demonstarting peacefully.

After eeba and the brief speaches, the audience was entertained by walaloo. Soon after, Oromo talents mixed Rythm and Blues with Oromo music to energize the crowd. Afterwhich, Bandi Oromo played Oromo music while the audience danced until well after the New Year began.
